Consultation on proposal of Market Weighton Infant School to join a Multi-Academy Trust and for the school to convert to academy status

Our Governing Body has been carefully considering the school’s future and the possibility of becoming an academy as part of a new Multi-Academy Trust. We are using the name “Wyke Learning Trust” at the moment; it is hoped that the new name for the trust comes through the consultation process. We believe that academisation will help us to grow stronger by sharing high quality services so that we can deploy resources in new and creative ways and help us to find local solutions for local issues.

The consultation period will run from 19th February to 11th March 2024. The Governing Body will then consider the findings of the consultation at the end of March.  The result will be available online via our website.

The initial partners engaged in the proposal are Baysgarth School and Castledyke Primary School in Barton upon Humber, The Market Weighton School, Market Weighton Infant School and Wyke Sixth Form College in Hull. The governors at Mount Pleasant Junior School have expressed an interest in joining Wyke Learning Trust, but have made the decision not to commit yet as they wish to engage in exploratory discussions with other Multi-Academy Trusts given their Christian distinctiveness.

There will be an opportunity to find out more and to express your views at one of the consultation events on Wednesday 28th February at 2.30pm at Market Weighton Infant School or 6.30pm at the secondary school (The Market Weighton School). Representatives from the governors, school leadership team and the proposed CEO, Paul Britton, will be available to talk to you. Please book your place here.

A video, brochure and website are available to explain the proposal and what it means for our school, pupils and staff. This will help to answer any questions you may have.
