Year 2 (ages 6-7 years)
Lessons become more formal in Year 2 as children start the second year of the National Curriculum. This means that there is an increased amount of whole class teaching with the expectation that children will be able to listen to the teacher for longer periods than they did in Year 1. However, learning experiences are designed to be active, stimulating and engaging for all pupils. For example, children visit a number of different businesses in Market Weighton to find out more about our town. Subjects are often taught through a termly or half-termly topic.The children engage in a rich cross curriculum and creative range of activities via the topics.
Children in Year 2 are assessed in May using the Key Stage 1 statutory test materials.
In Year 2, schools have to use a range of codes when reporting their teacher assessment to parents. The main codes are as follows:
