Starting Nursery

FOUNDATION STAGE 1 (NURSERY)

Our nursery is a happy and exciting place for children to get their first taste of school life. We have one nursery class with 26 daily places which is open every morning between 8.45am and 11.45am and every afternoon between 12.30pm and 3.30pm. It is also possible for children to attend full days. This is staffed by a teacher, nursery nurse and teaching assistant. Children who come to our school nursery settle really quickly when they start "big school" because they are familiar with school routines and the school environment.

Children are admitted into the nursery in the term following their third birthday. We take 26 children each day and parents can opt to choose full days or half days. All children are entitled to 15 hours (5 sessions) of free nursery education per week and some children are entitled to 30 free hours. We believe that we can make the biggest difference to a child's learning and progress if he or she joins us for their full 15 hour entitlement  (two and a half days) per week. We are now offering up to 3 days per week if a parent opts to pay for the additional half day.

Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities are accommodated wherever possible. There are many advantages for children in attending our nursery before starting school. For further information, please see our SEND local offer.

Please note that our nursery places are in demand. If places are full, names may be placed on our waiting list. In the event of over-subscription, places are allocated according to the Local Education Authority’s admission procedures. For further details, please refer to our Admissions Policy.

Enquires are always welcome at the school office on 01430 873159.

Nursery Admissions Policy

Market Weighton Infant School accepts for consideration any applications from families with pre-school age children. Children can start in the term following their third birthday, providing there is a place available.  For children born between 1 April and 31 August, this is the autumn term; for children born between 1 September and 31 December, this is the spring term and for children born between 1 January and 31 March, this is the summer term. If on the deadline for application there are more applicants than there are places, then places will be offered in accordance with the following criteria:

Criterion 1

  • Children who are looked after by a local authority and children who were previously looked after but ceased to be so because they were adopted or became subject to a residence order or special guardianship order.
  • Children who have a statement of special educational needs.
  • Children who do not have a statement of special educational needs, but have identified special educational needs and are supported by the local authority.
  • Children who have significant social or medical needs and their application for a nursery place is supported by an appropriate professional.

Criterion 2

  • Children resident in the catchment area of the nursery.

Criterion 3

  • Children will be ranked according to age and places offered to the oldest children.
