How to help your child
Home Learning
Reading with your child at home will help them to become a fluent and confident reader. Click on the links below for some great ideas about how you can support your child with their reading. Teachers use www.phonicsplay.co.uk to reinforce letter sounds- you may like to try it at home too as it makes learning fun!
Speaking & Listening
Universally Speaking provides information that will help you to support your child to develop speaking and listening skills in line with his/her age, as well as help you to support your child if he/she is struggling.
Personal & Social
Homework
In Foundation, children bring home letter sounds to practise at regular intervals. Home reading books are changed twice a week. Please practise regularly – it makes such a difference! Homework, linked to other curriculum areas, will be sent home when appropriate.
In Y1, children receive weekly homework based on English, phonics, maths or enquiry-based learning (topic work). Home reading books can be changed on a daily basis if you have read at home with your child. This is strongly encouraged.
In Y2, homework sheets are given each week, alternating maths and literacy. Homework is based on what your child has been doing in school and so you can use this as a guide to understand what they have been learning about. It is intended to reinforce their learning and they should be able to do it independently. Spellings are sent home weekly. Children are encouraged to use the Look, Cover, Write, Check method to learn them. Look at the word first to try to remember it, cover it over, then write it and check to see if you are right. Home reading books can be changed on a daily basis if you have read at home with your child. This is strongly encouraged.
